Calming Neutrals Bedroom
A painted V-groove half-wall echoes the ceiling and does double duty as both headboard and art ledge. To give the new pine floors the feel of an old country home, they were coated in a neutral color and spaced out with nickels to create gaps and imperfections. An old wood dresser repurposed as a nightstand adds contrast against the all-white surroundings.

You can never go wrong with blue in a bedroom, so why not blue on blue for an ever bigger win. Choose two shades on the same color card and you’ll be sure to have complimenting hues. For a classic look, use the darker color on the trim for the look of a tailored frame. Some paint stores will even mix your chosen color with white to give you varying saturations of the same hue.

Coastal Blue and White Bedroom
Don’t forget the ceiling! In this South Carolina house designed by Historical Concepts, designer Heather Chadduck Hillegas painted the bedroom’s ceiling (what she calls the “fifth wall”) a pretty sky blue. “I was inspired by the Southern tradition of painting porch ceilings ‘haint blue’ [said to ward off evil spirits],” says Heather. “Since the ceiling was wood, I decided to treat it as I would an exterior space.” Tip: Pick a slightly more saturated blue than you want it to appear to avoid it looking washed out at peak daylight.
